About Me

Hi.  My name is Jonathan Twining, and you are on my blog site, Creation's Crier.  First off, let me say that I am a follower of Jesus Christ, and for this, I make no apologies.  He is my Creator, Sustainer, Redeemer, and Friend.  He has changed my life in so many fantastically impossible ways, and I can't image life without him.  And my goal is to continue to become more like him ... honoring God with my whole heart, treating others with love and compassion, and respecting and caring for all living things.  These are the characteristics of God I most want to emulate.

I am an Assistant Professor of Biology at Eastern Nazarene College (note: the views presented herein are not necessarily those of the college community).  I have been teaching at ENC full time since 2005, and taught part-time from 1997-2001.  In between I taught middle school for four years in Franklin, MA.  Prior to teaching, I was an environmental scientist with a number of consulting firms in Rhode Island.

I have varied scientific interests, but I am most passionate about vernal pool ecology and conservation.  I also really enjoy tropical natural history, particularly in Hawaii.  I love reptiles and amphibians, and have an Animal Caretakers Team that cares for some adopted and rescued herps that we use to educate our campus and surrounding community about ecology and conservation.

As a ministry, I use my understanding and awareness of environmental concerns to teach people, and in particular, the Christian community, about our responsibility to care for the rest of creation.  I speak in churches and schools, at community events, and at larger venues, such as SoulFest about these topics.
